Being old enough is only half of it. Under 25 renters are held to a higher standard than the average 30 year old walk in, so have these ready:
- A valid driver's license with a clean record. Recent violations, especially reckless driving or a suspended license, end the conversation. International licenses are welcome.

- A major credit card in your own name. Not a parent's card. The security deposit hold and the rental need to be on the renter's card. Debit cards and prepaid cards do not qualify, which is covered in our no credit card guide.
- A larger security deposit hold. Under 25 renters typically face a higher authorization hold to offset the insurance risk. It is a hold, not a fee, and it is released after the return inspection. Make sure your available credit can absorb it for a few days.
- A second form of ID. A passport or state ID is standard for every renter, including younger ones.

The One Legitimate Workaround: A 25 Plus Co Renter
If your heart is set on a car that requires a 25 year old renter, there is one clean path: bring someone who is 25 or older and list them as the primary renter and driver on the policy. They meet every requirement above in their own name, they sign the contract, and they carry the responsibility that comes with it. A co renter cannot be a name on paper that never drives or a person who shows up for five minutes. It has to be real.
What is not a path: putting the booking in someone else's name and driving the car yourself. That violates the rental agreement, voids the insurance, and exposes whoever signed to the full liability if anything happens. Do not do it, and we will not help you do it.
